Medical & Dental History Review
To provide the best care possible, we’ll ask you to fill out a medical and dental history form. This information helps us understand your unique needs and any concerns you may have.

Our orthodontist will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth, jaws, and facial structure. This assessment will help us identify any orthodontic issues and determine the best course of orthodontic treatment.

Depending on your specific needs, we may take digital X-rays or photographs to gain a clearer understanding of your dental health. These images will help us develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to you.
Discussion of Treatment Options

While we strive to provide you with the best possible care, it’s important to be prepared for unexpected situations. Our team is here to support you, ensuring that you can address any issues that may arise during your orthodontic treatment.
What Constitutes an Orthodontic Emergency?
An orthodontic emergency refers to any situation where your braces, Invisalign, or other orthodontic appliances are causing significant discomfort or are broken and need immediate attention. While most issues can be managed with a simple phone call or by following at-home care instructions, some situations may require a visit to our office.
Common Orthodontic Emergencies
Here are some common orthodontic emergencies you may encounter during your treatment, along with guidance on how to address them:
Loose or Broken Bracket
If a bracket becomes loose or breaks, it can cause discomfort and delay your treatment. If the bracket is still attached to the wire, avoid removing it. If it is completely detached, place it in a safe container and contact our office for guidance on how to proceed.
Wires Poking or Hurting Your Cheek
Sometimes, wires may shift out of place and poke your cheeks or gums. If this happens, try using a pencil eraser or a cotton swab to gently push the wire back into a comfortable position. If you cannot fix it yourself, please contact us for further assistance.
Lost or Broken Retainer
If your retainer is lost or damaged, it is essential to replace it as soon as possible to prevent your teeth from shifting. Contact our office immediately so we can help you with a replacement.
Discomfort or Pain
It’s normal to experience some discomfort after getting braces or adjusting your appliances. However, if you experience severe pain that doesn’t improve with over-the-counter pain relievers, please reach out to our office for advice.
Invisalign Issues
If you experience discomfort with your Invisalign trays or if a tray is lost, let us know right away. If you lose a tray, we may advise you to wear the previous one until we can get you a replacement.
Swollen or Bleeding Gums
If you notice persistent swelling or bleeding in your gums, it could indicate an underlying issue, such as gingivitis. Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential during orthodontic treatment, so please contact us for advice if you experience these symptoms.
Preparing for Emergencies
To ensure that you are prepared for potential orthodontic emergencies, consider the following tips:
- Keep our office phone number handy, so you can reach us easily.
- Carry a small orthodontic emergency kit with wax, a small pair of scissors, and any necessary pain relievers.
- Familiarize yourself with your treatment and any specific appliances you have, so you can identify issues quickly.
